Richard Cogdal, tells his story of being in the Navy during WWII. His time was spent on the USS Makassar Strait. He describes experiencing the Battle of Okinawa, being the Officer On Deck, when President Roosevelt’s son received the telegram from his mother of his father’s death. He received the Battle Star Medal for Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
