Glenn Nichelson served in the United States Army during World War II. He was drafted before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the 276th Coast Artillery Battalion. He was then sent to the South Pacific after the bombing, where he served for another three years. He received a 45-day leave just prior to MacArthur's return to the Philippines, and while he was home on leave, he received his discharge.
