Frank Donnelly joined the United States Navy during WWII. He was trained as an Aviation Electrician. After training in Jacksonville, FL, where he experienced a hurricane at the Naval Air Station there, he spent most of the war at an Assembly and Repair facility in San Diego, CA. Here Donnelly worked with over 200 people, but he was the only electrician. He worked on planes that had crashed or been damaged in combat to get them fleet-ready again. When the war ended, he spent an additional 10 months in the service and was moved to Holtville, CA.
