Mr. Dave Cordes was studying Physics when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. The draft board gave him an ultimatum – if he would renounce his conscientious objection to the war, they would send him to Germany to work on computers. However, if he did not renounce his objections, they would send him to the DMZ as a combat medic. Mr. Cordes stood by his convictions, and went to the DMZ as a combat medic. He was a member of the HHC 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Bronze Star Medal with “V” device,Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 devices, Combat medic Badge, and Army Commendation Medal.
