Sidney Goldman served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army during WWII. He joined after completing ROTC at the University of Illinois. After completing his training stateside, he was sent to the Pacific as part of the 24th Infantry Division. He served as a platoon leader and saw action in New Guinea and the Philippines. He saw MacArthur's famous "I have returned" speech. He was later wounded and was still recovering from those woumds when the war ended. Of the medals he received a few of them are the Presidential Citation, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.
